Custom Cutting Boards

Upstate Fine Woodworking will fulfill your dreams of making the perfect cutting board, our guarantee is that we can recreate any cutting board you see anywhere on the internet. Below is information on how to start your project!

Cutting Boards

Cutting boards are a must have for anyone. Whether you are an experienced cook or just like home made meals, we can create the perfect board to assist you. If you see a cutting board anywhere online, we promise a 100% guarantee that we can recreate it!

To start off, you need to decide the size. We can create any board up to XX" long, 16" wide and 3" thick. Generally the average cutting board is around 16" long, 12" wide and 1.5" thick. Depending on its use, you may want to go bigger or smaller!

The next step to decide is design and grain direction. We can create anything from a simple charcuterie board all the way to a 3D end-grain board. If you find a design you like, you can forward the design via email to chris@upstatefinewoodworking.com. We also have a full portfolio on social media (@UpstateFineWoodworking) if you need some inspiration to start! Dependent on the design, you may need to select your grain pattern. For heavy cutting, end grain cutting boards are the best since they stand up to abuse more. Face grain boards bring a lower price, but do wear quicker. We do offer refinishing services if your face grain board wears down!

The next step is to choose your wood. We offer cutting boards with the following species:

Exotic Hardwoods

  • Purpleheart
  • Yellowheart
  • Redheart
  • Paduak
  • Zebrawood
  • Bubinga
  • Wenge
  • Sapele

 Domestic Hardwoods

  • Black Walnut
  • Hard Maple
  • Cherry
  • Ash
  • White Oak

Once you have your design and wood selection picked out, now it is time to add some features! Routering is the most common feature on cutting boards. Generally I slightly round over the edges to make it feel comfortable in your hands. You can also add juice grooves to the top of the board to keep your board surface clean and route the juices away from the cutting area. You can also add finger grooves on the bottom to help you pick up the board easier. Rubber feet are also a large advantage because they keep your board from sliding around the surfaces.

Pricing varies from board to board. However, we do have some prices that are set in stone.

  • Cutting Board feet are $10/set of 4 feet
  • Juice grooves are $15 extra for a full groove, $10 for a faded 2 side groove
  • Finger grooves in the sides are a $10 extra

A cutting board with feet, full juice and finger grooves would be $35 extra.

Our stated hourly labor is $45/hour. Labor discounts is available for bulk ordering.

Just like that you have designed your very own custom cutting board! If you have any questions, I would love to set up a time to discuss your dream cutting board and make it come to life!
